Vasilis Vasilas Part of Discussion Panel

 Vasilis Vasilas’ Work Being Recognised

Well-known Sydney historian, Vasilis Vasilas, will be participating at the Newcastle Writers Festival as one of the speakers in a discussion panel on the topic, Castaways of Chaos: Ukrainian Migration to Australia and its Impact on the Hunter Region.

On the discussion are also: Dr Wolodymyr Mortyka, Dr Sonia Mycak and Alex Burns.

Vasilas’ appearance at the Festival follows last year’s launch of his collection of Ukrainian stories and photographs in the publication, In Search of Hope and Home: Stories and Photographs of the Ukrainian Journey to Australia.

‘My personal journey in the Ukrainian community to compile ‘In Search of Hope and Home’ actually started and eventually launched in Newcastle, so it is rather special for me to be invited and be part of a discussion panel to discuss Ukrainian migration to Australia,’ Vasilas stated.

The discussion panel, Castaways of Chaos, is on April 1, 2016, at 12 midday and it is at the Hunter room of the Newcastle Council Building in King St, Newcastle.
