Year In Review

Hi All,

WOW – Another year almost over and when we look back, we have achieved so much not just in our community here in Australia but also in our village in Antissa, Lesvos .

We started 2009 with a generous $10,000.00 grant from our friends at the Macquarie Group Foundation, who overall in matched donations helped us provide over $60,000.00 to the following charities:

  • Antissa - ‘Meals on Wheels’
  • Antissa – Restoration efforts for the Monastery ‘Perivolis’ (ongoing support)
  • Australia Red Cross –VIC Bushfire Appeal
  • Ronald McDonald House Volunteer Work & Donation – Randwick
  • Exodus Foundation – Tutorial Centre & Feed the Homeless Donation
  • Movember – Men’s Health and Depression Awareness
  • National Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Spastic Centre Volunteer Work – Christmas Party for the Kids

We have made new friends of the Antissian Association in politics (Hon Treasurer Wayne Swann & Attorney General of NSW Hon John Hatzistergos) who gave up their time and attended our events and we had one of the largest turnouts at not just an Antissian dance but of all Hellenic Community Group dances in 2009, with over 500 guests in May.

At our AGM we introduced more youth into our committee with Mary Gialopouli sitting as Vice President and Maria Iatrou sitting as Treasurer of the association. We have clear goals and are moving forward with passion, enthusiasm and ‘ayapi’ so that our association will not only be known in NSW but around Australia and in Lesvos.

On behalf of the Antissian Association of NSW committee – I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous, Happy and Healthy 2010. Bring on 2010.

Regards,

John Loukadellis
President – Antissian Association of NSW
